WCAG 2.0 Techniques & Understanding Documents

Kathy: let's talk about the techniques

<Kathy> http://www.w3.org/TR/UNDERSTANDING-WCAG20/

Kathy: we noticed the technique might not need chnages but the understanding documents might need changing

<Kathy> https://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/mobile-a11y-tf/wiki/General_Techniques

Kathy: add notes for the understanding section

<Kathy> http://www.w3.org/TR/UNDERSTANDING-WCAG20/text-equiv-all.html

Kathy: we need to decide what we want to do and how we want to document this

DavidTodd: would be nice to have it all in one place

Kathy: it gets tricky because of all the relationships

alan_: will it be a separate document specific to mobile?

Kathy: I will create a separate document for the Understanding
... from there we can figure out the changes

<Kathy> https://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/mobile-a11y-tf/wiki/Draft_Understanding_WCAG_2.0

Detlev: what's going to happen with the draft WCAG understnding page?

Kathy: we will be making chnages to the techniques and understanding documents
... we are waiting for the WCAG to come back and tell us how to make those chnages
... will be discussions on that at CSUN
... any other suggestions on how we can document proposed changes?
... I will put out a survey
... understanding socuments will be a better fit if you are not technical

<Detlev> no

<Kathy> https://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/mobile-a11y-tf/wiki/New_WCAG_2.0_Techniques

What is missing from WCAG 2.0 for Mobile Web and Mobile Apps

Kathy: please review New WCAG 2.0 Techniques an then we will discuss

<jeanne> I think Mobile Web section should include support for user stylesheets to customize appearance of web sites.

<Jon_avila> I'm good.

<jeanne> ... although that may be a UAAG 2.0 issue more than WCAG.

Kathleen: add a long touch to #4 - Define the hover, focus, selected and touch states

Jon_avila: server-side?

Jon_avlia: best practice?

Jon_avila: look at BBC guidelines

Detlev: failure specific to the use of screenreaders?

<jeanne> Jeanne: Also look at the Funka Nu guidelines for ideas

Detlev: how do we scope the techniques?

Kathy: what things are missing?

Jon_avlia: an area of concern - keyboard success criteria - for apps designed to work without a keyboard

Jon_avila: what would constiture equivelent access?

Kathy: everything we do gets run by WCAG

Jon_avila: we are seeing that you have to swipe in from the side with no visual indication that you have to do that

KIMPatch: what's missing is discoverability

<Jon_avila> both

DavidTodd: many apps have tutorials

<alan_> Sorry, had to drop call.

Kathy: instructions for custom functions and gestures
... does #12 apply to both mobile web and mobile apps?

DavidTodd: i think it applies to both

Detlev: isn't this already in WCAG?

Kathy: anything else we need to add?

<Detlev> needs more time for thought..

Kathy: over the next see if there's anything else that needs to be added
... look at techniques - the ones we haven't gone through

Jon_avila: what if we have something we don't agree on? Put a comment with our name?

Kathy: Yes
... survey coming later today

KimPatch: the more eyes, the better

<Detlev> bye

<wuwei> bye
