  - Mobile Testing, Device Description Groups Launched —
    20 December 2006
    W3C is pleased to announce the launch of two groups: The MWI Device Description Working
    Group, rechartered to enable the development of globally accessible
    data and service repositories for use in content adaptation. The new MWI Test Suites Working
    Group is chartered to enable conformance testing for mobile Web user
    agents. 
  - Mobile Web seminar at the 3G World Congress & Mobility
    Marketplace in Hong Kong
    As a partner of the 11th 3G World
    Congress & Mobility Marketplace to be held in Hong Kong next
    month, W3C will run a Mobile
    Web seminar on Monday 4 December. Speakers include MWI sponsors
    MobileAware and Opera Software, as well as W3C staff (Philipp Hoschka and
    Dean Jackson). 
  - W3C mobileOK Basic Tests 1.0 Working Draft — 13
    November 2006
    The Mobile Web Best Practices Working Group has released the First
    Public Working Draft of W3C mobileOK Basic Tests 1.0. This document
    defines the tests that provide the basis for making a claim to be W3C
    mobileOK Basic compliant and are based upon W3C's Mobile Web Best
    Practices. 
  - Mobile Web Webinar scheduled on 20 November — 10
    November 2006
    Join us for a free W3C
    Webinar where you will learn how to mobilize your Web content.
    Dominique Hazaël-Massieux (W3C) will present documents and tools
    provided by the Mobile Web
    Best Practices Working Group including best practices, techniques,
    plans for the future mobileOK mark, and a demonstration of the best
    practices checker. The webinar will be held on 20 November at 10:00 a.m.
    UTC. Please register.
   
  - Planet Mobile Web hosted by W3C's MWI — 9 November
    2006
    W3C is pleased to announce Planet Mobile
    Web. This community service is a starting point for reading
    multiple blogs that discuss mobile Web usage. The Planet provides both an
    aggregated HTML view and aggregated RSS/Atom feeds. 
  - Mobile Monday talks — 6 November 2006
    Steve Bratt spoke at the mobile2.0
    event, jointly organized by Mobile Monday chapters of London and
    Silicon Valley, held in San Francisco on 6 November 2006. The same day,
    Marie-Claire Forgue presented the Mobile Web at Mobile Monday Paris. 
  - Mobile Web Best Practices Is a Proposed Recommendation
    — 2 November 2006
    W3C is pleased to announce the advancement of Mobile Web Best
    Practices 1.0 to Proposed Recommendation. Comments are welcome
    through 11 December. Written for designers of Web sites and content
    management systems, these guidelines describe how to author Web content
    that works well on mobile devices. Thirty organizations participating in
    the Mobile Web Initiative achieved consensus and encourage adoption and
    implementation of these guidelines to improve user experience and to
    achieve the goal of "one Web."
   
  - MWI Seminar in Paris, France — 16 October 2006
    W3C announces a public seminar on Mobile
    Web, to be held in Paris on 16 November 2006. This
    half-day event will focus on current results produced by W3C's Mobile Web
    Initiative. Speakers include representatives of MWI sponsors, such as
    France Telecom, Jataayu Software, MobileAware, Opera Software, and
    Vodafone. Attendance is free but registration is
    required. 
  - MWI at Fundamentos Web 2006 — 3 October 2006
    Daniel Appelquist (Vodafone) presented the Mobile Web Initiative's work
    at Fundamentos Web 2006
    in Oviedo, Spain, on 3 Oct. 06. 
  - "The Real Mobile Web" at Mobile Monday London — 2
    October 2006
    The Mobile Monday London event,
    held on 2 Oct. 2006, was dedicated to "The Real Mobile Web". MWI sponsors
    Bango, Opera and Jataayu Software actively participated and promoted the
    Mobile Web Initiative. 
  - CfP: W3C Workshop on Mobile Web in Developing
    Countries — 19 September 2006
    Position papers are due 1 November for the Workshop on the Mobile Web in
    Developing Countries to be held 5-6 Dec. in Bangalore, India. Jataayu
    Software hosts. Participants will discuss mobile Web access within
    developing countries in terms of needs, blocking factors and potential
    uses. Sponsorships are
    available to enable participation by those who might not otherwise be
    able to attend due to travel or other costs. 
  - W3C at MAPOS event — 7 September 2006
    Philipp Hoschka presented MWI in the "Improving the Mobile Web User
    Experience" session of the Mobile Applications Platform & OS (MAPOS)
    conference, on 7 September 2006, in London, UK. 
  - Workshop Report: Mobile Stakeholders Sketch Future of Device
    Description Repository — 24 July 2006
    Participants in the International
    Workshop on the Implementation of a Device Description Repository
    have published their report.
    Mobile operators, manufacturers, service providers, and accessibility,
    content adaptation and device information providers met 12-13 July in
    Madrid, Spain, to discuss the creation of a repository of device
    information. 
  - Mobile Web Design - Free W3C Webinar — 26 July
    2006
    Need help with the challenges of mobile Web design? W3C
    organized a free W3C webinar on 26 July 2006, where Cameron Moll, an
    expert in mobile Web design, spoke about mobilizing Web content (see slides (PDF)
    and podcast
    (mp3)). If you are interested in future W3C Mobile Web Webinars, please let us
    know.. 
  - mobileOK Scheme: First Working Draft — 13 July
    2006
    The Mobile Web Best Practices Working Group has released the First Public Working
    Draft of the W3C mobileOK Scheme 1.0. mobileOK labels indicate that
    content and its delivery pass tests based on the Mobile Web Best Practices and
    are designed to create an effective user experience. 
  - Mobile Web Best Practices: Call for Implementations -
    27 June 2006
    W3C is pleased to announce the advancement of Mobile Web Best Practices 1.0 to Candidate Recommendation.
    Written for designers of Web sites and content management systems, these
    guidelines describe how to author Web content that works well on mobile
    devices. Read the press release and testimonials. 
  - W3C Workshop on the Implementation of a Device Description
    Repository — 12 June 2006
    A W3C DDR Workshop is being held in Madrid, Spain
    (12 and 13 July 2006). Participants will discuss the design,
    implementation and use of a Device Description Repository (DDR). 
  - MWI/3GWeb at IST Mobile & Wireless Summit — 5
    June 2006
    W3C is running a stand at the 15th IST Mobile & Wireless Summit, from
    5 to 8 June 2006, in Mykonos, Greece, to present the current status of
    the 3GWeb IST project, which goal is to make the Web ready for
    next-generation mobile and wireless networks. 
  - WWW2006: "What will the Mobile Web 2.0 be?" — 24 May
    2006
    W3C's Mobile Web Initiative latest achievements, as well as future
    directions of work to be developed by MWI sponsors in the "What will the
    Mobile Web 2.0 be" panel, will be presented at the coming W3C
    track @ WWW2006, on Wed. 24 May, in Edinburgh, UK. 
  - W3C Introduces Device Independent Authoring Language
    (DIAL) - 16 May 2006
    The Device Independence Working Group announces the publication of the Device Independent Authoring Language (DIAL), which
    facilitates authoring for an ever-expanding range of mobile devices. 
  - Philipp Hoschka presents to Mobile Analysts — 19
    April 2006
    Philipp Hoschka presents the motivation, goals and achievements of MWI
    (see "The Web on the Move") at the first MWI
    analyst meeting in London. 
  - Second Last Call of Mobile Best Practices 1.0 — 12
    April 2006
    The Mobile Web Best Practices
    Working Group released a second last call working draft of the Mobile Web Best
    Practices 1.0, including a number of changes in response to the
    comments made on the first last call. Feedback can be directed to the BPWG
    public comments mailing list. 
  - Publication of the FPWD on Device Description Repository
    Requirements 1.0 - 10 April 2006The MWI Device Description
    Working Group has released the First
    Public Working Draft of Device Description Repository Requirements
    1.0. This document contains requirements for storing and giving
    access to device descriptions. Feedback can be directed to the DDWG public
    mailing list (archive).
 
  - W3C Mobile Web Initiative as Exhibitor at “Multimedia
    Handsets” — 14-16 March 2006
    Chris Lilley presents "Using Web Multimedia Standards for Mobile
    Multimedia" and Marie-Claire Forgue runs a booth at Informa "Multimedia Handsets" event. 
  - W3C Highlights Mobile Web at 3GSM World Congress —
    31 January 2006
    W3C is staffing a stand at the next 3GSM'06 exhibition, from 13 to 16 February 2006, in
    Barcelona, Spain. Please come visit us at G78 in Hall 2 to discuss
    about recent work within W3C's Mobile Web Initiative. 
  - Mobile Web Best Practices 1.0 in Last Call — 16
    January 2006
    Mobile industry leaders have reached a preliminary agreement on best
    practices for mobile Web content. Written to improve user experience, the
    Last Call Working Draft of Mobile Web Best Practices 1.0
    describes how to produce Web content and Web sites intended for delivery
    to mobile and small-screen devices. Please send review comments before 17
    February 2006. 
  - W3C is staffing a stand at next 3GSM'06 exhibition, from 13 to 16 February 2006, in
    Barcelona, Spain. Please come visit us at G78 in Hall 2 to discuss
    about recent achievements within W3C's Mobile Web Initiative.
