Internationalization (I18n) Interest Group Charter

The mission of the Internationalization (I18n) Interest Group, part of the Internationalization Activity, is to help the Working Groups within the Internationalization Activity and provides a forum to discuss issues related to the internationalization of the Web.

Scope

The Interest Group helps the Working Groups within the Internationalization Activity with advice and opinions from a larger group of people with knowledge in different languages and cultures as well as different parts of the Web architecture. The Interest Group also provides a forum to discuss issues related to the internationalization of the Web.

Deliverables

This Interest Group does not produce any deliverables.

Dependencies

The Internationalization Interest Group will provide a forum for announcements, discussion and advice for each of the Working Groups in the Internationalization Activity. Members of all Internationalization Working Groups will be automatically subscribed to the Internationalization Interest Group. The WGs will use the I18N IG to obtain input from a larger group of people with knowledge in different languages and cultures as well as different parts of the Web architecture, and to report progress on their work, and solicit feedback.

Participation

Membership of the Internationalization Interest Group is open to the public; W3C Membership is not a prerequisite.

Membership is signified by subscribing to the mailing list, www-international@w3.org. One can subscribe to the mailing list by sending an email to www-international-request@w3.org, with 'subscribe' in the Subject. There is no time commitment for participation to this Interest Group.

Communication

The Internationalization Interest Group shall communicate among its participants using the mailing list www-international@w3.org (public archive).

Patent Disclosures

The Internationalization (I18n) Interest Group provides an opportunity to share perspectives on the topic addressed by this charter. W3C reminds Interest Group participants of their obligation to comply with patent disclosure obligations as set out in Section 6 of the W3C Patent Policy. While the Interest Group does not produce Recommendation-track documents, when Interest Group participants review Recommendation-track specifications from Working Groups, the patent disclosure obligations do apply.

About this Charter

This charter for the Internationalization (I18n) Interest Group has been created according to section 6.2 of the Process Document. In the event of a conflict between this document or the provisions of any charter and the W3C Process, the W3C Process shall take precedence.
