The Federated Social Web is a wiki for people working on the Open Social Web (federated social web software and protocols).

Please join the W3C Federated Social Web Community Group ! Some links and information on this Wiki need to be updated.

It was originally made to support the Federated Social Web Summit 2010 as well as future summits like the Federated Social Web Europe 2011 and future collaborations. The group is a grassroots initiative.

Why federation?

Updating the Survey

A survey of relevant standards and specifications for the social web is being produced. It is an update of the [survey http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/socialweb/XGR-socialweb-20101206/] done in 2010 by the Social Web XG. We hope to update it with new approaches to federation, new software codebases, as well as more recent work on payments (like Bitcoin and Ripple) and a focus on decision-making tools (including social software for direct democracy, such as Social Innovation and Liquid Democracy), and social business (such as Atlassian products such as the Confluence wiki).
