- We switched from id to xml:id which is a breaking change with mathml2, but with the intention of making it easier to accomodate mathml in browsers etc.
But as part of html5 it seems quite likely that id will be "known" as type ID even in MathML and xml:id in common with other prefixed names may cause problems.
We've already had one public request, from Anne van Kesteren of Opera, to revert this change.

Today at the WG f2f we decided to allow both as xhtml2 is doing.
We decided to, however, change all occurrences of xml:id to id.
