https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=19739

          Priority: P2
            Bug ID: 19739
                CC: fantasai.bugs@inkedblade.net, howcome@opera.com
          Assignee: jackalmage@gmail.com
Summary: Investigate whether attr() needs "invalid at
                    computed-value time" concept
        QA Contact: public-css-bugzilla@w3.org
          Severity: normal
    Classification: Unclassified
                OS: Windows NT
          Reporter: jackalmage@gmail.com
          Hardware: PC
            Status: NEW
           Version: unspecified
         Component: Values and Units
           Product: CSS

For example, some things only accept positive numbers. If you have "attr(foo
number)", you don't know at parse time whether the number will end up being
correct.
