The W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) held a full day Web Accessibility Best Practices Training on 25 October 2005 in St. Augustin, Germany, as part of the WAI-TIES Project (WAI - Training, Implementation, Education, Support). This training was hosted by Barrierefreie Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik für Alle (BIKA) group of the Fraunhofer-Institut für Angewandte Informationstechnik (FIT).

The Web accessibility training (in English) covered the following topics:

Participation

While participation was open to anyone interested in Web development, the event was specifically designed for experienced Web developers with basic knowledge of Web accessibility and little or no experience in Web accessibility evaluation. We especially encouraged participation from representatives of governmental or non-profit organizations and from different regions and languages in Europe.

Note: The entrance to the venue is through the (main) car entrance of Fraunhofer Gesellschaft. Registered participants will receive visitor badges at the security checkpoint and the security staff will be happy to give further directions to the actual meeting room in the Schloss.

The institute is around 2km uphill from the hotel.
Hotel Golf Course
Very close to the institute (300 m), but in a very isolated environment.
Hotel Regina
A little bit farther than the above, but also very close.
Kranz Parkhotel
Has one wheelchair accessible room and is not too far away

Transportation

Closest international airports are Bonn/Cologne (25 km) and Düsseldorf (65 km); Frankfurt is 160 km away with a high-speed train connection to Siegburg (town located 3km away from Sankt Augustin). Further information about transportation can be found in the directions page from FIT

Pre-Registration

All spaces are filled and registration has closed on Friday 21 October, 2005. Future WAI Web accessibility training sessions will be announced on the WAI home page and the WAI Interest Group mailing list. Please note: only registered participants who have received a confirmation of their attendance will be admitted through security at the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft.
