[plh]: this is about the embedded unicode mapping

This is related to our not using the CSS {unicode} escape mechanism in familyName syntax.

Glenn Adams, 25 Jul 2013, 15:08:59

The concern here is to make sure that font <familyName> expressions are easy to apply in CSS. The current specification does not support the CSS2 defined escape, and so requires expressions be converted for use in CSS.

The current approach simplifies authoring by consistently using XML escapes.

Jerry Smith, 12 Dec 2013, 16:16:09

I have reviewed this with IE CSS contacts and got fairly strong pushback on aligning with CSS. That gives the highest chance of high fidelity rendering, and is philosophically cleaner than setting the spec based on currently available tools.

It is, however, possible for UAs to pre-parse the TT content and modify Unicode escapes. We don't believe it is the correct trade-off in this case though.
