Sharing Knowledge

MH: attending CSUN next week
... will report back interesting aspects
... CSUN not typically research-oriented
... but there may be interesting stuff anyway

<mhakkinen> https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/47076/RDWG-170215/results

<sloandr> Agreed on CSUN—there seems to be a conscious effort to attract more academic research contributions

SAZ: could also have others share observations they make at other conferences

Research Catalogue Topic Review - Current Survey results

<mhakkinen> https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/47076/RDWG-170215/results

<mhakkinen> https://www.w3.org/WAI/RD/wiki/Research_Catalogue

<sloandr> Sorry, I thought I'd completed this one! I'll fill it in before next call

MH: no new results

SAZ: were people notified?

MH: in the agenda

VC: also reminder went out

AN: said March 10th

MH: looking at survey results
... not sure what the research question is around HTML5 support

SAZ: can imagine questions around technology evolution

VC: could check with Silvia

MH: also around browser compatibility
... have been looking at web components
... and the role of polyfills

VC: like the idea of biometrics

MH: keep separate or part of security?

SAZ: hard to slice things that are not slicable

VC: could be part of security

YM: could be part
... to reduce number of topics
... but maybe have sub-topics
... with headers of broad topics

AN: agree with Yehya that we have lots topics
... but think that the two topics seem separate
... confused about the research catalog

<annika> https://www.w3.org/WAI/RD/wiki/Catalogue_Topics ?

http://www.w3.org/WAI/RD/process.html#topics

DS: think should organize according to research topix
... to relate to user task and what they are trying to do

MH: thinking could organize in-line with W3C domain or principles

http://www.w3.org/standards/

YM: some headings have keywords in parenthesis
... suggest adding this consistently
... helps to understand the meaning
... some clear but some are ambiguous

Tips for Accessibility Aware Research

<mhakkinen> http://www.w3.org/WAI/RD/wiki/Tips_for_Accessibility-Aware_Research

DS: charter deliverable, started in september 2013
... share collected knowledge to help make researchers aware of their potential contributions
... so far just a skeleton of the document
... address both research with little knowledge of accessibility
... to introduce the models, APIs, and other aspects
... helps orient themselves and find where they can most contribute
... also information on how to include diversity
... and a section on how to involve people with disabilities in research
... also on reporting findings in an inclusive way
... secondary audience is people who support research
... for example for funders to reference for project grants
... need to agree on ths outline or refine it

SAZ: think this is really great
... but lots in there
... thinking of managing scope
... maybe also working with other groups
... leveraging existing resources
... could be an entire book!

DS: completely agree
... use resources where they exist
... but put them in a way that helps people new to accessibility

MH: look back at this in one month?

VC: what kind of input would you want from the group?

DS: what kinds of things new researchers are looking for
... like the discussion we had at W4A in Seoul

VC: good idea
... maybe also ask for additional references

DS: yes - and everybody can comment on this document

SAZ: agree with the suggestion
... maybe also get the group to re-review the outline
... to remind themselves
