<janina> Meeting: PFWG telecon

<janina> agenda: this

preview agenda with items from two minutes

<scribe> scribenick: joanie

[Group does introductions for SK]

<janina> 87

<wuwei> unmute me

<wuwei> unmute me

SK: introduces herself

RS: I have news

<richardschwerdtfeger> IBM/IDPF ePub announcement:

<richardschwerdtfeger> http://idpf.org/news/ibm_adopts_epub

<richardschwerdtfeger> http://idpf.org/news/ibm_adopts_epub-supporter-quotes

<richardschwerdtfeger> http://asmarterplanet.com/blog/2014/02/epub-mobile.html

RS: Discusses the above items
... Moving away from PDF to EPub for documentation
... One of the main drivers for this change is mobile
... Because PDF is not really a good format for mobile
... NFB and AFB participated in this
... Boeing looked at this and asked him how to make this change
... ETS is also interested
... The above blog entry gives additional details
... Starting in the 3rd quarter of this year is when the switch will occur.
... Next item:
... (withdraws that item as it will be mentioned under ARIA as per JS)

CS: Does her introduction for SK

MC: Wanted to bring up....
... ... there's a draft for the CSS guide that Judy Brewer

Previous Meeting Minutes https://www.w3.org/2014/02/12-pf-minutes.html

JS: We have agreed to start publishing our minutes to the public but agreed to review them first for any corrections
... Asks for edits/corrections
... Are there objections to publishing them as written?

(There are no objections)

MC: I have made them public

Actions Review (Specs) http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/Group/track/actions/open

new on TR http://www.w3.org/TR/tr-status-drafts.html#tr_LCWD

MC: There are no new TR documents
... or last calls that i know of
... CSS draft charter is:

<MichaelC> Draft CSS Charter

MC: Typically, when there is a WG charter, we look to see if there is a dependency on accessibility
... Beyond that, the CSS WG is one of those groups with an indeterminate set of deliverables at the moment
... There are currently approximately 40, some of which with timelines
... How do these deliverables affect us?

RS: One of the things that immediately comes to mind is media queries
... I don't see anything from IndieUI here
... This needs to be on the roadmap

JS: In fact, we asked them for these inclusions

MC: From a charter perspective, I'm not sure I'd expect this
... This would be something we'd coordinate with them
... They should depend on IndieUI

RS: Absolutely

MC: We should take this to the discussion

<richardschwerdtfeger> ach richardschwerdtfeger

JS: Do we want to name a formal liaison?

<richardschwerdtfeger> ach richardschwerdtfeger

JS: If so, James Craig would be an ideal candidate for this role
... If not James, perhaps someone else would like to be a liaison?
... Second point, James N had a specific point on his action item

JN: I was looking for the definiton of "content"
... I could not find an updated definition
... Link was in the CSS 2.1 generate module, but surely it's somewhere else (we think?)

MC: Is this a charter comment?

JS: I think it is. We are requesting a deliverable of them.

MC: Normally, you have to charter for a recommendation track deliverable.
... A group wouldn't likely do that based on a title
... We'd have to send them something more concrete
... This charter does say the working group may create new specifications.
... I wonder if the feedback might be, "We think you might want a deliverable about...."

JS: I wouldn't wiggle on this too much
... I think we can strongly advise them that this would be useful
... Any disagreement?
... We can wordsmith later; explaining the principle is the key thing
... James N, can you write up the notion

JN: I think so, yes

<janina> ACTION: nurthen to draft the concept of a css overview to definitions and key concepts [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2014/02/19-pf-minutes.html#action01]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-1385 - Draft the concept of a css overview to definitions and key concepts [on James Nurthen - due 2014-02-26].

<richardschwerdtfeger> http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-speech/

RS: CSS speech module
... (link above)
... They have been in CR for 2 years now
... One of the things brought up at EduPub, they are specifying a UI as if the content author were a screen reader expert
... It would be better to allow students to make use of AT during test.
... but fill in key gaps that would help
... A lexicon for expanding terms
... Would like to do this with CSS
... Example "mps" spoken as "meters per second"

JS: I agree that these are good ideas
... Perhaps we could help
... But is it a charter issue?

RS: There are many things in the charter, this is not one of their things to do
... How do we raise this requirement

MC: I don't have any thoughts (on how to go about doing this)

<janina> ACTION: rich to draft concept of enhancement for apip to css speech [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2014/02/19-pf-minutes.html#action02]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-1386 - Draft concept of enhancement for apip to css speech [on Richard Schwerdtfeger - due 2014-02-26].

JS: We can discuss this further on list.

Community Groups Checkin http://www.w3.org/community/groups/

<MichaelC> Declarative Linked Data Apps CG

MC: Describes new group linked above
... On the one hand, this might be a positive approach. On the other hand, this is academic

JS: This might not be tracking

CS: If they get traction, we should follow it

MC: Will add it to the list to review later

APIs Checkin

ARIA 1.0 PR Progress

<richardschwerdtfeger> https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/33280/pr-WAI-ARIA1-UAIG1/results

RS: What I need you to do is speak to your AC reps
... Michael your target is a minimum of 20 by 7 March

MC: The sooner the better

RS: I got three signed up, with more in the queue
... I need others to help in this area
... Everyone who has weighed in (9) have said accept as-is

MC: I asked Shane about that public comment
... Shane said he'd accept Ivan's option on that.

SM: He's an expert in this area

JS: Does this include referencing the new documents coming out this February?

SM: Yes, that doesn't hurt us at all.

RS: One question for Michael:
... Do you have a list of all AC Reps

MC: Yes, I believe there's a public page of member organizations. I need to go find it.

RS: I can reach out to people, but I need to know whom

MC: Here's the list

<MichaelC> Current Members

JF: If you provide it, I can help too.

<richardschwerdtfeger> https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/35125/TPAC2012/registrants

Renaming PF http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-pfwg/2014Feb/0026.html

JS: We seem to have settled on a name
... Per previous discussions at this meeting
... Accessible Platform Architectures
... Per procedure put out a last call for thumbs up/down
... Got a flury of support
... My question to the group: Are we ready to move this forward for consideration for approval?
... Last step is 48 hour consensus call

<janina> DRAFT RESOLUTION: PFWG approves a name change to Accessible Platform Architectures Working Group

RESOLUTION: PFWG approves a name change to Accessible Platform Architectures Working Group

JS: Will start the 48-hour consensus call
... This will take a while to bubble up

PF Charter Update https://www.w3.org/2012/10/draft-pfwg-charter

JS: I assume there are no updates

MC confirms

CSS Followup https://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/Group/track/actions/1375

JS: James N had an action item on this to investigate what happened to an objection we raised

JN: Generally I think everything was dealt with -- at least most things

[Looking for related email]

JN: I found the email, but have not yet found link in archives
... We had apparently agreed to accept it with following steps

<janina> His email is at:

<janina> http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-pfwg/2014Feb/0046.html

[JN reads from email above]

JN: To me that's a good statement which covers our objections

CS: It does cover them technically
... Has this been seen in wild?

JN: Yes it has

[JN reads second item from email above]

JN: Nothing about how to use sprites with content property
... WCAG technique for this has not yet been done

[JN continues reading]

JN: Last reference found in 2.1 module
... So either it hasn't happened or he hasn't been able to find it
... It might be in one of the specs I haven't looked at.

CS: I also remember a discussion about media queries

JN: I remember that too, but it's not in the notes/comments

JS: This came up last week as part of a last call
... Are we seeing anything which heightens our concerns?

<JF> me must drop. Rich, I will send you an email of some folks I can reach out to - watch your inbox. Bye all.

CS: Is that module a reasonable place to put a media query

:)

[MC is looking for reference]

MC: In backgrounds and borders

CS: That would make sense as the place to put it

JS: That's the basis to take this up next week
... If people could look at that, it would be helpful

CS: I'll look at it
