Please note that the number of participants is limited to 100 (the teachers really do interact with all participants and assess every assignment!).
A wealth of research shows that more and more people are accessing the Web via mobile. Each new set of results shows differences but the trend is all in the same upwards direction, pushed along by the introduction of devices like the iPhone and by mobile networks offering more and more flat-rate data packages.
- How do you create great content for mobile?
- What do you do differently compared with the desktop world?
- How do you make sure that no matter what device someone is using, they will be able to access your content and services while on the move?
This course will tell you.
Developed and taught by the Mobile Web Initiative team, the course builds on the output of the various expert groups operating within W3C: the standards, the tools and the test suites — all designed to help you make great content available to as wide an audience as possible.
The course is for you if:
- you are familiar with creating websites for desktop presentation;
- you have at least some familiarity with HTML and CSS;
- you enjoy meeting challenges and trying out new techniques.
Participants who complete the course will receive a W3C Certificate of Completion.
An Introduction to W3C's Mobile Web Best Practices is based entirely on W3C standards, particularly the Mobile Web Best Practices document. A full description of the course is available as well as a free sample and demo.
During the course you will:
- learn about the specific promises and challenges of the mobile platform;
- learn how to apply W3C's Mobile Web Best Practices to design mobile-friendly Web content;
- gain practical experience of turning desktop content into mobile content;
- learn client side and server side techniques for adapting your content to different classes of device.
Participants will have access to lectures and assignments guided by W3C experts on this topic who are the instructors for this course. You will also be able to discuss and share experiences with your peers who are faced with the challenges of mobile Web design.
