  • public e-mails:

    • tweet, machine translation: Here we go! We open our 5th #Fronta11y for #GAAD with @_mherrmann and "The frustratingly confusing situation of WAI authoring practices" What do you think? how was it with you

machine translation: The frustratingly confusing situation of WAI authoring practices
    • tweets, excerpts of additional thread: I wrote this sone weeks ago. What a coincidence that today, @w3c_wai possibly rendered the article obsolete with: https://w3.org/WAI/ARIA/apg/ ...
When I took a glance I only saw a proper warning, "Read Me First", providing much more context. But rendering an article obsolete that tries to point out at least communication issues with a ressource is actually the best thing that could happen.

  • Getting started with ARIA: ...
Then: Argh! — A long spec doc… — you know how that goes.
    But no more, apparently.
There’s a brand new ARIA Authoring Practices Guide, fledgling still but with patterns, practices, and other guides. ...
This is what I need. A clear introduction. Progress.

  • No ARIA is better than Bad ARIA.
Before using any ARIA, it is essential to understand why.

  • @w3c_wai @w3c please redirect old WAI-ARIA Authoring practices links to the new APG website, Every single link is broken.
Also please add anchor links to the headers, I can't jump to "Managing Focus Within Components Using a Roving tabindex" header and link it directly.

  • Dear @w3c_wai , I'm liking the new layout of your ARIA patterns at: https://w3.org/WAI/ARIA/apg/patterns/ but would it not have been possible to do a 301 redirect from all the old pages to the new pages? I've got a page of links that are all giving me a 404 now. ☹️

  • So many things that bother me about this redesign. It’s great but under the hood, not so much.

  • This is a great idea. I think one of the reasons #a11y is often skipped is because the docs are so long and dull.

  • machine translation: WAI-ARIA-Authoring Practice 1.2 has been moved, and a page APG with a redesigned UI is born.
Until now, it was like The Document,

  • ARIA Practices moved to a brand new website! Includes lots of examples and documentation of accessibility patterns, and learning resources. 😍 Very happy to see this. Much easier to navigate, and clearer that it isn’t a spec. Check it out!

some of our outreach

about APG itself, beyond the redesign

  • twitter.com/w3c_wai/status/1527321803634274310
    I am thrilled this:
    - no longer looks like a standards doc,
    - is much easier to navigate.
    I am less thrilled this:
    - left a pile of 404s with the move,
    - implies it is a ready-to-use pattern library.
APG is still untested, ARIA-first, and biased.
    Adrian Roselli, 20 May 2022
  • Pretty nice to see the WAI-ARIA site redesigned with a fresh, cleaner look! https://w3.org/WAI/ARIA/apg/
Disclaimer: These patterns are NOT "the truth". The whole site is a great source of Accessibility knowledge. But use your own judgement before applying them dogmatically
