Summary
We should probably make the specification ban any style attributes obviously in the wrong place. However due to inheritance rules, this may be quite a small set.
most style attributes are only allowed on : body, div, p, span, region, style
displayAlign only on region, style (or on p, div if they have extent or origin set) extent and origin only on tt, region, style (or on p, div) opacity only on region, style (or on p, div if they have extent or origin set) overflow only on region, style (or on p, div if they have extent or origin set) writingMode only on region, style (or on p, div if they have extent or origin set) zIndex only on region, style (or on p, div if they have extent or origin set)
showBackground only on region, style (implicit on p, div if they have extent or origin set)
unicodeBidi only on p and span
We should probably allow id as a synonym for xml:id. Not sure if we can do this unilaterally as it would break existing content.
