HypER Tasks for Possible Uptake into HCLS - Scientific Discourse Task(for Discussion)

  • HypER Task A: Quick integration/bridges between various tools/systems
  • HypER Task B: Aligning Discourse Ontologies

Overall Objectives

  • Converge Relevant Scientific Discourse Ontologies
    • SWAN, SIOC, SALT, KMI (Buckingham Shum)
  • Converge Tagging Approaches
    • aTags, SWAN Annotation Ontology, DERI Annotation Ontology

Task Objectives

  1. Invite HypER Participation
    • a) Current overlap: Tim, Matthias, Tudor, Annamaria
   b. Invite: Anita deWaard, Siggy Handschuh & Simon Buckingham Shum (others?)
  1. Integrate aTags, DERI & SWAN Annotation ontologies
  2. Integrate SWANSIOC + SALT
    • a) Present SALT (Siggy)
   b. Evaluate vs. SWANSIOC
   c. Develop Use Case
   d. Develop Integration Approach
   d. Integrate
   e. Document (IG Note?)
  1. Integrate KMI Discourse Ontology
    • a) Present KMI Ontology (Simon Buckingham Shum)
   b. Evaluate vs. SWANSIOC & SALT
   c. Develop Use Case
   d. Develop Integration Approach
   d. Integrate
   e. Document (IG Note?)

Rationale

  • Annotation Ontologies: Instant synergies and support for computational annotation tools
  • aTags + Annotation Ontologies:
  (a) Highly practical aTags support personal annotation; (b) integrate with computational annotation model for unified view
  • SWANSIOC + SALT:
  (a) Broader applicability, including to CS papers; (b) synergies (c) reduce duplicative efforts (d) speed adoption
  • SWANSIOC + KMI:
  (a) Greater practical applicability of KMI ontology (b) make use of large body of theoretical work from KMI in SWANSIOC + SALT

Scope
