- European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products (EMEA)
- The EMEA Guidelines for good practice is a unified standard for the European Union (EU), Japan and the United States to facilitate the mutual acceptance of clinical data by the regulatory authorities in these jurisdictions

- A European platform for access and retrieval of full text and factual information in the Life Sciences

- National e-Science Centre in the UK
- FMA
- The Foundation Model of Anatomy (FMA) of the University of Washington
- Gene Ontology
- The Gene Ontology project provides a controlled vocabulary to describe gene and gene product attributes in any organism
- HL7
- Health Level Seven is one of several American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs) operating in the healthcare arena. Its Structural vocabulary is of a particular importance here.
- National Center for Biomedical Ontology
- consortium of leading biologists, clinicians, informaticians, and ontologists. The center refers to a number of ontologies, eg, Open Biomedical Ontologies

- Unified Medical Language System of the US National Library of Medicine
- NCI Metathesaurus
- Meta thesaurus browser of the US National Cancer Institute

- SNOMED Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT) is a dynamic, scientifically validated clinical health care terminology and infrastructure
