Candidate topics for Fall AC 2020

From W3C Wiki

CEO Overview (Jeff)

  • General update to share broadly what W3C is doing
  • TÇ: I think AC appreciates a regular brief CEO update, also helps set tone for the meeting

Inclusion and diversity at W3C, Belonging at W3C (Tzviya)

  • CW: I'm for this topic if it has asks for Members: I'm concerned it will end up as tone-deaf virtue signalling if it doesn't really speak to a plan. +1 TÇ
  • Practical topics: what can AC do to help improve diversity; what can W3C do to help AC do it etc.
  • Goal: Move from talk to action on inclusion and diversity, make people aware of the problems that exist and how we make sure we get serious input from as broad a slice of the membership as possible

Financial Update (Eric / Bill)

Legal Entity Update

  • Where we are, what's still pending, areas of work/action/research, highlight choices facing the consortium, mention plan on Director-free and how it connects to LE; connect to financial update
  • Goal: Share information and thinking that was presented to AB + substantial update from work in July/August, where we are and where we might be as an independent LE

MiniApps (Judy / Xiaoqian Wu)

  • Goal: Discuss the opportunity to embrace a huge adjacent ecosystem to the web platform. Discuss architecture issues.

Approaches to Privacy: Privacy CG & WebAdv

  • Goal: Discuss different approaches to question of privacy

Process 2021 (Florian)

  • Notably Registries and Tooling, Director-free movement, anything else that is ready to be covered or needs input
  • Goal: Announce current topics, raise awareness of issues, encourage participation

Horizontal Review (if changes are coming)

  • Goal: Disseminate information about new processes and procedures, if any; or raise issues to AC if necessary

W3C Approach to Security (? / Sam Weiler)

  • Update on W3C's approach to security, security HR (and why there is not an established group with responsibility for it)
  • Goal: Describe how W3c addresses security review so people know what we do and don't have, and why it is like that
  • Combine with HR topic if presenters believe this is appropriate

Other Updates

  • Strategy funnel
    • Goal: Explain what has moved in the pipeline, describe the overall strategy for managing the balance of work
    • Comment: TÇ+FR+ES:this should be a blog post update
  • TAG overview
    • Comments: TÇ:maybe ask the TAG if they want to do this first? EE:Agreed. Just didn't want it to fall off the radar.
  • Next big thing report
    • should be a summary sent to AC forum instead

Methods to make the Q&A session more successful

  • ask presenters to list questions in their pre-recorded sessions on which the AC feedback is sought
    • bring back these questions into the live session
  • create sub-groups during the live sessions to allow for less intimidating space for discussions
  • highlight the existence of less formal time for discussions before/after the meeting so that people can plan for this in their calendar
  • Before each topic or set of topics: plan a short time to give the highlights (a few slides welcome) in order to engage and steer the conversation before the Q&A
  • Engage the whole audience by suggesting one or two polls during the sessions
