Locations and Addresses Community Group
The LOCADD CG aims at reviewing the existing efforts to standardize vocabularies/encodings for providing a geospatial reference for resources (e.g., through coordinate geometries, addresses or geographical names), and to assess whether any use cases (in the context of the Semantic Web and possibly not limited to the geospatial domain) would be served by harmonisation and/or new standardisation work.

Relevant reference data and services
- OGC definitions service. URIs that start http://www.opengis.net/def/* get redirected to http://def.seegrid.csiro.au/sissvoc/ogc-def/resource?uri=http://www.opengis.net/def/*. The SPARQL endpoint is at http://def.seegrid.csiro.au/sparql/ogc-def
- Example: urn:ogc:def:crs:EPSG:6.11.2:4978 maps to http://www.opengis.net/def/crs/EPSG/0/4978 (http://www.opengis.net/def/crs/EPSG/6.11.2/4978 was not considered since URIs are not versioned, consistent with the EPSG policy for individuals. (only the EPSG database representing the collection as a whole is versioned))
- Compound reference systems are also supported - see, e.g., http://www.opengis.net/def/crs-compound?1=http://www.opengis.net/def/crs/EPSG/0/4269&2=http://www.opengis.net/def/crs/EPSG/0/5713

- ontology URIs like http://def.seegrid.csiro.au/isotc211/iso19156/2011/observation
- INSPIRE Registry: Operates registers for INSPIRE reference data - e.g., application schemas, code lists, feature concepts, glossary, themes. Data are available in all the official languages of the EU, and in different formats (XML, JSON, CSV, RDF/XML).
- Spatial Reference: Provides a register of spatial reference systems (both standard and user-contributed). Each SRS is identified by a URI, from which it is possible to get the SRS definition in different formats (not RDF). See, e.g., http://spatialreference.org/ref/epsg/4329/
- EPSG.io (@GitHub): Besides being a registry for EPSG reference systems, the API offers also multi/point coordinate transformation, JSON and JSONP export, and a few other features. Similarly to Spatial Reference, each reference system is identified by a URI, giving access to its definition in different formats (not RDF). See, e.g., http://epsg.io/4326

State of the art for representing location and address information
The purpose of this survey is to
- review the existing efforts to standardize vocabularies/encodings for providing a geospatial reference for resources, e.g. through coordinate geometries, addresses or geographical names
- assess whether any use cases (in the context of the Semantic Web) would be served by harmonization and/or new standardization work
