Minutes

  • Pieter - Maria and I have gone through the use cases page at https://www.w3.org/community/lbd/wiki/Seed_Use_Cases and tried to restructure what we found and remove / answer open questions
  • Pieter - Shall we try to use categories when listing the use cases? Or shall we simply list all possible use cases?
  • Matthias - Let us first provide everyone the opportunity to add as much use cases as possible. After that, use cases can be tagged (domains, stakeholders, ...), and an ordering mechanism can be set up that allows ordering of use cases according to tags.
  • Matthias - Also a status tag could be added that indicates whether something is a new use case, a proposed use case, an implemented use case, or any other kind of use case
  • Pieter - Okay, these tags can also be used to list datasets used in particular use cases
  • Kris - The "external sources" line can be used as a tag as well to include relevant data sets used in a use case?
  • Pieter - Should we not provide also a 'map' that gives an indication of ontologies or data sets that are available to people involved in construction industry? Something like http://lod-cloud.net/versions/2014-08-30/lod-cloud.svg? By making such a map, people will more rapidly be inclined to reuse existing ontologies and publish new datasets. This might make the available use cases more concrete.
  • Jakob - This would be a good idea. Something like this can be generated from Maria's ontology catalogue at http://smartcity.linkeddata.es/. However, this will likely take quite some programming time, time which nobody has.
  • Matthias - are the arrows relations between data or between ontologies (only one versus multiple links)? Can't we used ontology alignment techniques and automatically obtain an impression of how ontologies and datasets are linked?
  • Maria - A lot of things can be done, but it will take time and work in any case.
  • Maria - The diagram at http://lod-cloud.net is generated from the data that is made available at http://datahub.io/. If construction industry does not submit data here, building data does not appear in http://lod-cloud.net.
  • Pieter - Building a map that supports use cases might be useful to encourage and help construction IT people to generate data using recommended ontologies and find their way to http://datahub.io/.
  • Pieter - Any news on the scenario's that are built for the wiki?
  • Matthias - I have been looking into the indoor navigation scenario and built an MVD that lists the exchange requirements to allow indoor navigation. If we can use this MVD to build a partial graph containing IFC data from an IFC instance graph, we can get forward in the use case. This should actually not be so difficult.
  • Jakob - In this regard, we might be able to use the IFCtoRDF service in the BIMServer made available via TNO (this is already implemented) to generate the partial graph based on the MVD. Also, Chi Zhang is working on SPARQL-based MVD selection. This might also be used in support of this scenario.
  • Pieter - Do we first make a selection within a set of IFC instances and convert to RDF afterwards? Or do we convert to RDF first and select a subset afterwards?
  • Matthias - Both options are possible (and other options, likely), but it would be good if this scenario moves forward.
  • Matthias - In the EU STREAMER project, there are quite some BIM models available (for hospitals for instance) on which this scenario could be tested
  • Matthias - Even a small working example is good enough for now
  • Matthias - The use case is clear, there are a number of initiatives that could benefit: Google indoor maps, research at TUVienna, ...
  • Matthias - We can remove identity information (address etc.) to avoid privacy issues in the scenario realisation
  • Jakob - Indoor navigation can be very useful for evacuation and fire-fighting purposes
  • Kris - Gives an indication of the work going on around the sensor use case
  • Pieter - okay. before time is up, let me give an overview of where we stand with the BuildingSMART LD Working Group.
  • Pieter - all kinds of setting up done for BuildingSMART LD Working Group:
  • Pieter - Public website for the group, listing people involved: http://www.buildingsmart.org/standards/standards-organization/groups/linked-data-working-group/
  • Pieter - Public tech website for resources (including ifcOWL ontology): http://www.buildingsmart-tech.org/future/ifcowl
  • Pieter - Mailing list is available at http://lists.buildingsmart.org/listinfo/lbd
  • Pieter - A biweekly meeting is planned (maximum!!) with the BuildingSMART LD Working Group on Friday 10AM CET. This meeting is planned to take one hour and followed by the W3C LBD meeting (11AM CET), also taking one hour maximum. The kickoff meeting for the BuildingSMART LD Working Group is Friday 29 May
  • Maria - How can people join the group?
  • Pieter - Simply send an email to the chairs: j.beetzATtue.nl or pipauwel.pauwelsATugent.be, that's it
  • Pieter - About the events, nothing really new to mention from my side
  • Jakob - I am inviting all kinds of people to the LDAC event, including someone from the GeoSpatial domain, someone in INFRA, someone in the national railways. This is looking good
  • Matthias - I intend to make a hands-on session in the LDAC event, with the indoor navigation scenario. Please spare me a slot
  • Kris - So am I, with the CSVLD hands-on session of Brian Walshe. I am also inviting folks from the EeB projects. So far there has bee a few replies, with one confirmation (IES).
  • Jakob - There is enough room to accommodate all kinds of side-tracks and parallel tracks, so no problem.
