Moreover, I looked at the feasibility of automatic login upon creation of a new account, but I don't see how we can do that without storing passwords in clear text.
Proposal: When a user opens the log in modal window he gets a link to the account request form. At the end of the account creation process, the user gets redirected to wordpress' log in page, and once logged in, he gets redirected to the original page he was on (or the page he wanted to access, for cg creation for example).
On the account creation duplication question: Jean-Gui is going to chat with Tom about including the page directly in a modal window.
Ian Jacobs, 26 Sep 2012, 13:42:10Tom thinks having a modal window for the account request will be difficult and is not worth it as you don't get your account immediately, and other reasons we already discussed about.
So, I have implemented the "redirect to" feature in the new account request form. To use it, use a URL such as http://www.w3.org/accounts/request?ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2Fcommunity%2F (when this gets deployed, of course)
I wonder if that suffices for now. New users won't automatically be logged in, but I don't think this is doable elegantly and without requiring hours of digging into Wordpress' code. I propose that we add that feature request to the wiki for later.Jean-Guilhem Rouel, 12 Oct 2012, 16:19:41
