Presentations/Web Payments Developers

From Web Commerce Interest Group
Jump to: navigation, search

This is a planning page for creating a presentation on Web Payments for Developers. The goal is to have the outline of the story we want to tell, then fill in the outline with planned assets. We will continually build on this, and the end result will be usable by everyone. We will prioritize parts of the story that will be useful for the launch and early stages of the Web Payments WG.

See also messaging in the Web Payments WG Charter FAQ.

What problems do we perceive?

  • Pain points for end users, developers, businesses
  • Illustrate pain points (not necessarily through diagrams; could be through images of confusing payments pages, or forms to fill out on mobile devices, etc.)
  • Security issues

What opportunities do we perceive?

  • User perspective
    • User retains control of data
    • Improved usability across all sites (through enhanced capability and harmonized experience)
    • Automation (and thus simpler UI)
  • Merchant perspective
    • Allows decoupling of loyalty from payments, lowering liability and reducing overall costs.
    • Customers can opt in to loyalty programs with more confidence and decreased effort.
    • Lower shopping card abandonment due to improved checkout experience and increased confidence that sensitive information will not be shared with merchant.
