WCAG 2.1 timeline

The WCAG group is working toward a possible WCAG 2.1 release to update the guidance in WCAG 2.0. WCAG 2.0 is not changing, but updates and additions are provided as part of WCAG 2.1, a separate document that may be conformed with or included in policies in the same way that WCAG 2.0 is today.

The proposed timeline for WCAG 2.1:

  • Editors Drafts (of a combined extension): starting in July/August as proposed SC's are provided
  • Success criteria proposals due before: December 1, 2016
  • FPWD of WCAG 2.1: February 28, 2017
  • WD: April 18: https://www.w3.org/TR/2017/WD-WCAG21-20170419/
  • WD: May 16: skipped as a result of no new changes.
  • WD: June 20:
  • WD: July 18
  • WD: August 15
  • Stop SC processing: August 22
