Understanding Reflow SC

From Low Vision Accessibility Task Force

Reflow Ability 1.3.2.x: The generated source order of the perceivable elements of a document, at any point in the execution of a document, defines a correct reading sequence of the document. If the author’s style is removed from perceivable elements and replaced by styles preferred by the user, that do not change the source order position of perceivable elements, then the document is presented in a correct reading sequence.

Intent of this Success Criterion

The intent of this Success Criterion is to ensure the ability to reflow a document in linear order that enables reading and operation. It enables assistive technology to be written to present the content of a document in a linear format and a visual style that supports the user’s needs. This presentation can occur within the user agent, a necessity for operability. The linear format will preserve the meaning intended by the authors of the content, and if content includes active elements these elements remain fully operable. Finally, if over time the document changes state, as is the case with modern documents, each new state will preserve the reflow ability of the content.
