Augmented and Virtual Reality - Accessibility Use Cases

From Research Questions Task Force

Introduction

This page collects accessibility-related use cases for virtual reality and augmented reality - potential applications in which these technologies can enhance access to the web for people with disabilities.

Remote Sign Language Interpretation

Augmented reality could be used to enable sign language interpretation of spoken material to be provided at a distance by a human signer. This application would require a low latency, high band-width network connection, and appropriate placement of the sign language interpreter within the visual scene.

Presentation of Enlarged Text and Notation

Augmented or virtual reality could be used to facilitate the presentation of enlarged text or notation (mathematics, for example) to facilitate access by people who have low vision. [Additional details should be added here.]
