HTTP
is the protocol that is used to transfer Web pages from the server to the client (or back in some cases). HTTP (
HTTP 1.1
) contains the following internationalization features:
- Indicating the character encoding of a page sent from the server to the client (
charset parameter
)
- Indicating the character encodings understood by the client to the server
- Indicating the language(s) of a page sent from the server to the client
This is done using the
Content-Language
response header.
- Indicating the language(s) understood by the user to the server (language negotiation)
This is done using the
Accept-Language
request header.
