There were several responses to this in both the conference call and in email that I think needs clarification.

Eric noted in the email that for drawImage in a canvas when the intrinsic dimensions are percentage based, that it would make sense if the width and height passed into the drawImage call were the svg viewport, and if they are not then making the svg viewport equal to the canvas width/height is the correct behavior.

In the conference call it was discussed that if you don't pass a width and height when you call drawImage, the SVG should be drawn into an area using the <canvas> width and height. Then the underlying viewBox could still be used for the coordinate system.

I cannot tell if these are complimentary or a change.

We should get a clear statement in this action and then I will move it to the HTML5 working group if it has not yet been well specified.
