Rationale: I would like to defer new additions to the table model for now, until we have the new stuff implemented well and reliably.

Incidentally, what would the use case be for this?

Before adding this, we need to study the use cases for it. If you'd like me to add this to the spec, please don't hesitate to reopen the bug, just make sure to say what you plan to use this for!
