Could I ask the WGs to think again about whether it really makes sense for the math functions such as sin(), cos() and tan() to be in a different namespace from other core functions?

Can the WGs define a rationale or strategy for partitioning the function library into different namespaces? If this is the first step in a new strategy, and we can articulate that strategy, and apply it to other new functions, then it might make sense. As it is, it just looks as if we were having a bad day when we made the decision.

One likely consequence, judging from past experience, is that XSLT editing tools will automatically insert a declaration of this namespace into every stylesheet. This clutters the code and adds very no value.

The working group thought again, and although there was some support, there was no consensus to change. See discussion in minutes 2010-03-02. Therefore closing as WONTFIX.
