Rationale: That would only work if that algorithm used 'position' and 'input'.

Ah, true. But in that case, what does "skip all White_Space characters" mean? If the string is " x y" should it skip two whitespace characters and end up on 'y', or end up with a string "xy", or something? It needs to be defined with the same precision as the "skip White_Space characters" sub-algorithm.
