There is apparently a paragraph break in the middle of a sentence here... <p> If an element that has no children is expected to be empty, </p> <p> the serializer MUST use the minimized tag syntax, for example <br />, as the alternative syntax <br></br> allowed by XML gives uncertain results in many legacy user agents. If the html-version serialization parameter is absent or has a value less than 5.0, the serializer MUST include a space before the trailing />, e.g. <br />, <hr /> and <img src="karen.jpg" alt="Karen" />. </p>
