Description Tim Mills 2016-09-21 10:40:17 UTC
In "Unicode Normalization" we read

"Unicode Normalization is the process of removing alternate representations of equivalent sequences from textual data"

A definition of "alternate (adj)" says "every other; every second." or "another term for alternative." and indicates that the second usage is common in North America. Perhaps "alternative" would be a better choice of word to avoid ambiguity.
