(Originally reported by Dana F.) Should we remove the data model constraint that requires that adjacent text nodes are not allowed and should be merged? This constraint has negative consequences during updates (in case of deletes or inserts). In such cases, if the data model after the update has adjacent nodes it is unclear how to handle correctly the node identifiers while satisfying the XDM constraint.
Adjacent text nodes will be merged. The resulting nodeid is implementation-dependent. This resolution has been documented in a working draft.
