Let me upstream this bug to HTML from Shadow DOM spec. https://github.com/w3c/webcomponents/issues/91 Can Document and ShadowRoot share the common interface, LayoutRoot?
Is `LayoutRoot` a sufficiently descriptive name to cover the common interface? There are similarities between the Event model too.
Is this not a question for DOM? Sam makes a good point about events. I wonder what a good term is that combines those aspects.
This was fixed in the DOM Standard through https://github.com/whatwg/dom/commit/418338575c7f79a18d20ebcc88c19834366379cf. (We still need to start using it in HTML, but there's plenty of open issues on that.)
