Visibility section mentions "MAP elements are shown if and only if the image it uses is displayed. Areas within a map are shown if the enclosing MAP is displayed." but MAP elements do not use image elements (only the opposite can happen). Also I feel we SHOULD write more MUST everywhere so I suggest: "MAP element MUST be displayed if and only if there exists an IMAGE element that is displayed and uses that MAP."
Corrected suggestion (I accidentally omitted mentioning of the AREA elements before): "MAP element MUST be displayed if and only if there exists an IMAGE element that is displayed and uses that MAP. AREA element, a child of a MAP element MUST be displayed if and only if its parent MAP element is displayed." I am not attaching a patch here intentionally. It would depend upon/interfere with those attached in bugs 25182, 25736. It is probably best to first apply those patches (in that order) before applying this suggested change.
