Instead of repeating 'If Z is a case-sensitive string match for "Y"', we should define some terminology and say 'If Z is "Y"', linking the work is.
I don't think we need to define this by linking the word is. See the last sentence of the "conformance" section of http://www.w3.org/TR/dom/ for a much easier example.
