The text in 3.2 that defines the appendBuffer and appendStream methods are almost identical, except for 
- the parameter name (data vs. stream) 
- the name of the algorithm to run at the end (buffer append vs stream append loop)
- and adding the data to the input buffer (step 7 in appendBuffer).

Having copy-pasted text is error prone and should be avoided. Consider merging the two definitions.
