I have seen "complaints" about this in a forum. I decided to report this to you, since I also believe that it should be possible for docs. There is a extension to MediaWiki providing this functionality: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:OpenID
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40068 https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40067 Both are relevant issues to getting the existing module patched so we are able to use it.
Is this a request for OpenID as a provider, or as a consumer? The two bugs I link to are for using openid as a provider, but not as a consumer. We could probably add OpenID as a consumer right now. OpenID as a consumer is honestly confusing for most end-users (technical or not) and also complicates things, because if we can to use OpenID as a means to tie in other applications into mediawiki's auth, then we have to consider people may want to log into mediawiki as a consumer, then we'd need to somehow authenticate them to mediawiki via OpenID, then to the other application via OpenID.
