I know we don't really care about making the site pixel perfect in older browsers, but we should perhaps try to improve things in IE6 just a little.

IE6 Really? Shouldn't we push if anything for 7+ at this time?

I think that we are targeting developers and other technically savvy internet users. We should try to focus on this group which doesn't use these IE's outside of testing. I do think that some IE support is needed since some schools may not allow non-IE browsers due to some of the software they use, but even then they don't tend to use IE6 anymore. Perhaps targeting 7+ would get the largest audience and not require any extra workload for such a small target.
