A number of people said that they found the site confusing when going to webplatform.org - they didn't feel that there is enough content on there to say exactly what the site is, so it's purpose is not immediately obvious. we should look at improving this content.
What could we do to improve the initial message? I am thinking we could have a small bullet point list highlighting the main 3 or 4 purposes of the site. That should be clear enough to most people.
I think the existing blurb is nice and inspirational, but perhaps below it we could add something like Using Webplatform.org, you can: * Learn how to use open web technologies using our tutorials * Look up data about open web technologies using our reference docs * Contribute to docs and tutorials (see our [WPD:Getting_Started|Getting started] guide) * Discuss open web technology documentation using our [[http://talk.webplatform.org/forums/ Q&A]] and [[http://talk.webplatform.org/chat/ Chat]]
I like it except for the final point. I think it should say something like "Discuss our documentation..." compared to Open Web Technologies since: 1) OWT was used twice in previous points and gets stale at that point. 2) It may give the impression to people that we are currently doing support which we are not.
I've written an updated version of the blurb, according to Garbee's point. Using Webplatform.org, you can: * Learn how to use open web technologies using our learning material * Look up data about open web technologies using our reference docs * Contribute to documenting open standards (see our [WPD:Getting_Started|Getting started] guide) * Discuss our documentation using [[http://talk.webplatform.org/forums/ Q&A]], [[http://talk.webplatform.org/chat/ Chat]], etc.
