A number of people have complained that the web-based IRC kinda sucks. Shall we provide the IRC details on the chat page, so that people can easily change to using their own IRC client if they wish?

I'm honestly for not hosting chat ourselves. Offloading that over to Freenode's webchat would be best from a spam preventive measure to be honest. We can easily link there with the channel filled in so they get to set their own nick and answer the captcha before joining.

That would offload the service to Freenode and allow Ops to ban specific abusers by IP whereas the system we had before didn't allow for that.

As an update to this, I talked with Ryan in the chatroom and he explained a few things about the system and a few things being added when it gets put back up and as long as they work then self-hosting will be much better.

I'm closing this ticket since the content is now on the Chat page so it is fulfilled.
