Description pub-w3 2012-05-05 14:13:43 UTC
Most of the IBM selected kanji and one selected non-kanji are part of the official JIS X 0212 standard, and a few characters have been added to more recent versions of JIS X 0208.

The ones that are still missing can be found in an IBM extension to JIS X 0212, Rows 83--84.

Safari's EUC-JP implementation includes this extension. Adding it seems harmless, but I am not sure how useful it would be. Perhaps someone could check whether this way of encoding IBM selected kanji and non-kanji is used in practice?

If it's in Safari that's probably because it's in ICU, which means Chrome has these too. Internet Explorer does not do 0212. Hmm.
Comment 2 pub-w3 2013-01-14 19:55:22 UTC
Chrome only includes Roman numerals and ㈱.

I guess I rather stick to what Gecko and Opera have then. Less engines to changes.
Comment 4 pub-w3 2013-01-15 18:20:11 UTC
That sounds reasonable. I was hoping someone would check whether or not these characters are actually used on the Web, but I guess the lack of support for JIS X 0212 in IE makes extensions unlikely to be important.

Since people seem opposed to even a subset of these, marking as duplicate.
