Description I18n Core WG 2011-07-28 16:43:30 UTC
4.6.7 The q element
http://www.w3.org/TR/html5/text-level-semantics.html#the-q-element

On behalf of the i18n WG.

We think it would probably be useful to add a note to this section to remind readers that users can set the quotation marks differently for content in a particular language using the quotes property in CSS.

It would also be useful to provide a non-English example (there is one in the CSS spec for Norwegian).

Btw, any description of language-dependent styling should mention that the shape of the quotes around the q element depends on the language outside the q element, not the language inside it.

Status: Partially Accepted
Change Description: see diff given below
Rationale:

Please file only one issue per bug.

I added the suggested note.

It's not clear to me what the multilingual example would be showing. If you still want such an example, please file a new bug explaining what it is the example should be demonstrating. (This section doesn't really have any examples, as it's mainly aimed at implementors.)

I've tried to avoid any specific discussion of quote styling, as this is a matter already discussed in the CSS specifications.
