This is an archived snapshot of W3C's public bugzilla bug tracker, decommissioned in April 2019. Please see the home page for more details.
Bug entered on behalf of Lachlan Hunt: I object to this document claiming to replace sections of HTML5. The WG should not publish or endorse specifications that directly contradict another specification from the same WG. Instead, any reasonable portions of this document should ultimately be merged with the HTML specification and unreasonable portions should be dropped. --- http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-archive/2011May/0051.html
My recommendation is to RESOLVE this as NEEDSINFO, and to encourage specific bugs to be opened. This bug could then be marked as "Depends on" that list of bugs.
The working group has not reached consensus on whether the HTML5 specification is the canonical source of requirements or advice in regards to the provision of text alternatives for images. As editor I intend to identify and note points of difference in normative requirements and informative advice between the alt spec and the HTML5 spec, people will then be free to file bugs against the differences. Differences are due to: * requirements in HTML5 not taking into account current browser, AT support realities * watering down of WCAG 2.0 requirements * lack of normative and/or informative advice in HTML5 for some use cases The requirement and advice deficiencies in the current HTML5 may result in authors providing inaccessible content.
