<Mark_Miller> This section explains how to use the Accessibility Maturity Model.
<Mark_Miller> The model is intended to evaluate an organization's capacity to create and maintain accessible digital assets. The model guides an evaluator/s in assessing an organization's readiness for these activities.
<Mark_Miller> To use the AMM:
<Mark_Miller> Scope the assessment: determine which dimension(s) to assess, and whether you are assessing the whole organization or a portion.
<Mark_Miller> Gather evidence: Collect data and document the findings for each dimension's proof points that reflect current, not aspirational, practice.
<Mark_Miller> Determine the maturity level: Establish the level the evidence supports for each dimension based on the guidance in the dimension.
<Mark_Miller> Record and act: Document the result of the assessment and, where the gaps in the maturity level exist. The results of the assessment can be used to create a corrective action plan with goals, owners, and timelines.
<Mark_Miller> For example, the Communications dimension is at the “Launch” level if the organization has written plans in place to make internal and external communications accessible and to comply with any applicable accessibility regulations, but those plans have not yet materialized into a cohesive, cross-organizational roadmap.
<Mark_Miller> To claim this maturity level in the Communications dimension, the proof points determined to be satisfied in the evaluation must support the claim. The AMM provides applicable proof points.. Proof points may be extended as described in §1.3 Extending.
<Mark_Miller> A few rules apply throughout an assessment:
<Mark_Miller> Maturity levels are sequential: an organization reaches a level only after meeting the criteria of the previous level.
<Mark_Miller> Proof points may be partially completed at the Launch and Integrate levels, but must be fully completed at the Optimize level.
<Mark_Miller> Not every proof point applies to every organization. Where one does not apply, it is marked N/A (not applicable) and removed from scoring. For any marked N/A, annotate the reasoning.
<Mark_Miller> Some best practices for an assessment include: :
<Mark_Miller> Maturity is collaborative, therefore a cross-functional approach is most effective.
<Mark_Miller> Include subject-matter experts and people with disabilities in the discovery process..
<Mark_Miller> Reassess on a regular cadence to track progress and catch areas that are regressing.
David: Determine the maturity level: Establish the level the evidence supports for each dimension based on the guidance in the dimension.
janina: maybe em-dash instead of a :
Mark_Miller: Maybe Establish is the issue should be determine but then its repeated twice.
Mark_Miller: Jeff A wrote a fantastic blog post on writing in plain language.
