Accessibility mapping of `<a>` element
@jamesn There has been some discussion of this the past few days. There is nothing in the specs for the mapping that is appearing in some browsers.
James Craig: If we can get all implementations to agree this will be an aligned implementation detail that can make its way into the spec. This is why these are living standards. I see these as bug fixes to get the end result.
Tyler Wilcock: I feel the bit about links being mapped to hrefs sometimes as a bit of a tangent to the original issue, but I'm good with doing this mapping in the spec.

James Craig: Then couldn't we also say a div with a click listener can be mapped that way? I would defer to the implementers that worked on this but maybe this should be limited to MathML?
@jamesn: This (in the issue) is in HTML, not MathML
Tyler Wilcock: I think the anchor tag has such strong semantics that it would work to have this mapping just in HTML. It wouldn't have to be added to things to divs too.
@sarah: Echoing Tyler's point, but it feels weird as a spec thing to do this when there is a click handler.
@jamesn: It feels weird because I've scolded devs for this for so long it feels weird for it to be okay now.
@sarah: I am trying to think through if I've relied on the older behavior in the spec in past projects that may break now.
@jamesn: Should checkers flag this as an error? If it works correctly everywhere it's okay, so maybe it's just a best practice warning.
James Craig: it's more of a pain for us spec authors, but it eases things for content authors.
