Meeting minutes

ah...i think i may have confused myself (updated our regular bi-weekly meeting for this, as there was no zoom link yet at the time)

be right there one sec

for regular PEWG folks ... i messed up and the breakout is not our regular zoom link, but this one https://w3c.zoom.us/j/81809036612?pwd=SlGPYs5b7PmYv33RhNaOhe7rat9ZWf.1

<marie> plh: is it assumed that we can be able to polyfill these events or not?

<marie> patrick: possibly

<marie> olli: what is a gesture?

<Zakim> matatk, you wanted to ask about the set of gestures being explored

matt: following an ATAG review, you mention pinches, swipes, etc. - so wondering if dwell, etc. can complete the set of gestures? Or is it too late?
… have you heard from devs?

patrick: we are still defining the shape of the proposed charter
… longpress is tricky - like what is long? ;)

tess: many other platforms have a gesture recognizer - a mechanism observing the raw events

<plh> GestureRecognizer Class

tess: the obvious way for th browser to implement is via gesture recognizer
… there is a pre set of features
… to be found in literature and from surveys

plh: are we trying to support a final set of features or designing an API that may allow to define gestures?

patrick: define your own gesture is part of what Microsoft did at a certain time - not submitted for a W3C spec. It disappeared eventually

plh: if you are trying to define a set of features at high level - we'd need an incubation on this, btw - ...

patrick: any other high level events?

tess: i'd recomend a litterature review... look at other platforms and make lists
… find out what developers have access to...

rob?: if done at the OS level, it would work better - resp to accessibility

rob: click count to define a double click

patrick: let's double chcek the double clik ;)

plh: can we get literature on what are the apps using out there?

patrick: some stuff might be outdated - I believe that JQuery has built-in
… Angular, etc.

Patrick: agree another next step is to get feedback from developers to get a sense on what gestures

plh: would be nice to survey the developers
… what do they use?

rob?: component libraries are important too

rob?: some OS maynot allow you to remap

patrick [asking plh about the process specifics wrt that spec]

plh: wrt current charter, incubation is one option
… we should both develop a proposal AND a polyfill

plh: edge swipe
… going from one page to another

[marie, patrick, plh]: questionnaire discussion

rob: what developers are trying to accomplish with these gestures. One of my goals is to present the simplest API possible

patrick: may be rotation and scale ... gestures that can be plugged in CSS

<Patrick_H_Lauke> was just saying ... "i think we're coming to the end" and the event stopped :)

<Patrick_H_Lauke> anyway, thank you all for attending

<smaug> thank you
