Agenda Review & Announcements
janina: Small group so we'll take up what we can
janina: We can and must make some decisions today.
janina: These we will do as we may.
janina: MM1.0 is out!
janina: There is a breakout at TPAC. Work has not stopped and wil certainly continue.
janina: There are plans and next steps in mind.
Fazio: Gotta make them slides.
APA Calendar for the Remainder of 2025
janina: This call will not be called next week. There will be meetings aplenty in Kobe
janina: We have a TPACked agenda next week.
janina: It's Matthew's task getting all that organised.
janina: Here's a real question. Will we meet the 19th?
janina: The 26th, though? That's the Wednesday before US Thanksgiving.
janina: This call is now widely participated in by non-US people.
Fazio: I'm down for breaks.
Neha: I can meet.
janina: The non-US have spoken up for meeting on the 26th.
janina: Post TPAC we will resume on the 26th. Then we will meet on every Wed until our usual end-of-year break. Which means we won't meet on 24th adn 31st.
janina: That is December.
janina: I have another announcmement...
Upcoming W3C Workshop om Smart Voice Agents
matatk: Task Forces meet independently of APA.
Fredrik: jFAST has a long Christmas holiday.....
janina: Almost there, looking for URIs.
https://
janina: The topic is somethign I think we are interested in.
janina: Another kind of browser: talk to it, interact with it.
janina: Pronunciation might be interested.
janina: In RQTF when we discussd this there was notement of a TTS coming enabled for 23 languages.
janina: That is an interesting development.
janina: Things are happening that relate to Pronunciation.
janina: Is the wider world's adoption of voice acces a reason to consider where and how we get the language right?
janina: Said workshop is the place for such proposals.
janina: The timeline for preparing a presentation si short: until end of Noember. The workshop itself is end of February.
matatk: Do epople agree?
janina: I'm suggesting a review of the history of all the Pronunciation struggles to come up with a solution.
janina: And all that we had to abandon because it was JUST a11y. Now we have the wider world saying we're all going there. Is that a reason to rethink the decisions madee about SSML? That's an interesting question to pose as such.
janina: Accessibility is always first. Always. Because it's a human problem. We're solving human problems. They happen first in a11y. Then, when it's stouff that does good things, then it goes to the mainstream.
janina: I think its a useful conversation that goes beyond a11y.
&me Chairing is cairing.
TPAC 2025
matatk: I've been looking particularly at Janina's timetable for the week.
matatk: Under the TPAC thing in the agenda:
Check out the links in the TPAC section of the agenda: https://
matatk: Overview of APA sessions including breakouts.
matatk: Basically, what we are doing.
matatk: We do need to decide on stuff we want to do to fill these sessions.
matatk: The APA sessions, that is.
matatk: Some assistance provided to Msr. Fazio.
Example PR from APA: w3c/
matatk: You do need to register if you want to attend TPAC.
matatk: The list of internal topics...
matatk: The overview shouldn't take too long.
matatk: That's on Monday.
janina: Overview, CSS interface...
janina: We want to ahve a convo with Kevin about MM and further developments.
janina; Bring up the gripes, they're important!
matatk: Maturity, Overview, CSS Interavce.
janina: DVB?
matatk: What about MEIG for DVB?
janina: Good point.
matatk: There's something of a Schrodinger's agenda... with the DVB/MEIG...?
matatk: We could talk about things that need clarifying in the norizontal review process. I'm aware of some, but definitely not all of them.
janina: What's missing is better guidance from note developers in the process documentation.
janina: Yours Truly is probably on the way to another group, a CG doing the consensus process.
matatk: We've got a good list of topics here and we can starrt scheduling them.
matatk: How much time do we want to allocate for each oint though?
New Charters
Pointer Events
matatk: This one we should certainly scrutinize most scrutiniciously.
&me Or we might get screwt.
matatk: I think we shoudl postpone this.
matatk: Expected end of Charter refinement phase 4 Dec.
matatk: What about asynch?
janina: Anyone taking the lead?
janina: Thanks!
Spec review requests
matatk: This is fun. I wish more people were on the call for this.
Proposed Screen Orientation comment
matatk: I am suggesting a minor tweak to the wording int he a11y section.
matatk: They use the term essentia, which is a WCAG term, in two ways: once in the way it is inteneded and the otehr as it isn't. The second, Ia am suggestign, should be deleted. It is minor but the suggestion would make thigns easier to understand.
matatk: Its a very small, even minor, change.
Issue tracking
CSS-UI interactivity: focusable
matatk: Would anyone want to look at this?
matatk: Any comments please on the thread.
matatk: Nudging Mr Grenier.
matatk: it is proposign making things focusable using CSS.
PaulG: So instead of tabindex 0?
matatk: This has given me thoughts. This needs discussion again.
matatk: We should/can use the GH thread.
[focusgroup] clarify and handle cases where scrollable regions have focusgroups (accessiblity)
matatk: This one is an ancinet now but actually not irrelevant thread.
matatk: Do we want to porpose Paul's commetn as an APA comment?
Neha: Cold CSS work with the tab order just like tabindex does?
matatk: Let's discuss that further when we have more time.
PaulG: I'll post that comment in the origianl thread.
A way to make autoplay respect prefers-reduced-motion
janina: Cross-link these minutes?
matatk: All of us want that.
specifically Noam's comment on generalisation (we support the specific idea; and I will record that after we clear this up)
said comment: whatwg/
matatk: Does anyone have any thoughts on the autoplay responds to MQ reduced-motion
matatk: You could have an autoplay-when attribute with different attributes...
CSS Update (Paul)
matatk: Thanks everyone!
janinaCheers everyone!
