Meeting minutes

The main topic is pull request for providing placeholders for localization.

<AvneeshSingh> w3c/publ-a11y#732

<AvneeshSingh> w3c/publ-a11y#688

gpellegrino: it all started with issue #688, raising difficulties to localise in some languages. the PR accomadate the request for ONIX technics. Once approved, we can port to other technics. It mainly affects the certification part, because there are names and dates in this section. Matt implemented the changes in the daisy viewer and came with some corrections. I think we are ready now to merge this.

mgarrish: I am curious of seeing this implemented in localisations.

AvneeshSingh: we have a workplan: seek mickaƫl feedback, merge, implement in localisations, port to epub technics.

Any other business.

w3c/publ-a11y#736

w3c/publ-a11y#727

gautierchomel: I suggest we merge those two minor PRs

gautierchomel: 736 is a typo fix.

gpellegrino: 727 is a response to a report from vital source.

gpellegrino: I remember it was only affecting ONIX.

CharlesL: looking about what happens in spec headers. Shall we do the same with our documents?

mgarrish: yes. I'll keep on cleaning all our documents.

George: we have received a tool: https://nickbromley.github.io/accessModeSufficient-calculator/

George: it is good if people from this grop can look at it and provide feedback.

mgarrish: we have a similar process in the SMART tool.

George: I am also still looking for feedbacks on the extended description icon instead of a text. I think it is important for adoption.

AvneeshSingh: creating icon is a long process comes with complexities related to culture.

CharlesL: we had some exemples on W3C approved icons. I'll search the links. Previous works won't work probably. The other approach is an accessibility icon very generic like man in a circle.

gautierchomel: It is imlportant to agree on lin,k text. This could be the alt text of any icon. I suggest a text about the difficulties of one icone fits all cultures, say it could be a good practice but should be localised. Then provide implementation examples.

<CharlesL> [rough draft page] Accessibility Icon Set from W3C WAI

<CharlesL> https://www.w3.org/WAI/teach-advocate/accessibility-icon-set

CharlesL: those does not work here, they are to indicate a disability type, not a feature.

George: extended description are not only for people with disabilities, we have strong feedbacks of needs from other publics.

George: then a very generic icon would do. like the triangle from the detail element or three dots.
