Meeting minutes

ACT stand-up

<Kathy> Wilco: resolved comments on rule redesign page, push 1 change

<Kathy> ... splitting ARIA rules

<Kathy> Giacomo: reviewed PRs, closed some issues

<Kathy> Kathy: reviewed PRs, 1.1 Rules Format approved

<Kathy> Wilco: request for implementations of 1.1 needed

<Kathy> Sasha: nothing to report

<Kathy> Carlos: nothing to report

<Kathy> Wilco: no further Task Force update

Passed Example 3 in Headers attribute specified on a cell refers to cells in the same table element [a25f45] should be edited/removed (act-rules/act-rules.github.io#2233)

<Kathy> Carlos: example fails ARIA and HTML while passing rule

<Kathy> Giacomo: it's invalid HTML

<Kathy> ... cannot reference ID of <td>

<Kathy> Wilco: we have examples of pass WCAG but not valid in other specs

<Kathy> ... want to highlight WCAG can pass even if they don't meet ARIA or HTML specs

<Kathy> Giacomo: having the headers or not is exactly the same

<Kathy> Wilco: can we change example? to 4 col table. odd cols contain headers and even cols contain the data

<Kathy> ... headers are not in the same col as data

<Kathy> ... used to be valid HTML4, but invalid HTML5

<Kathy> ... used to work, might still work

<Kathy> Sasha: have had problem that headers referencing ID doesn't work

<Kathy> Wilco: VoiceOver doesn't support

<Kathy> Carlos: no accessibility support note in rule currently

<Kathy> Wilco: would it fail if headers attributes are different from scope

<Kathy> Carlos: headers are there for when scope wouldn't work

<Kathy> Wilco: headers over scope

<Kathy> Giacomo: confirm VoiceOver doesn't support headers

<Kathy> Wilco: it didn't in the past

<Kathy> Giacomo: I can test

<Kathy> ... invalid HTML in passed examples aren't a strong solution

<Kathy> Wilco: rules include edge cases to be tested consistently

<sashanichols> there are 8.3k code instances on github of <ul><div :D

<Kathy> Giacomo: major browsers are trying to create algorithm inconsistently

ARIA ID Reference Error Processing - Requires ACT review #2337 (act-rules/act-rules.github.io#2337)

<Kathy> Carlos: discussed in July

<Kathy> ... update from ARIA WG

<Kathy> Giacomo: aria controls removed from scroll bar so rule should be deprecated

<Kathy> Wilco: agree to deprecate

<Kathy> Carlos: deprecate rule

[NEW RULE] - ARIA required accessible names - aria-required-accessible-name-gp8n89 (act-rules/act-rules.github.io#2190) CarlosD]

<Kathy> Carlos: discussed that it overlaps existing rules

<Kathy> Giacomo: some roles do not require accname in editor draft of ARIA spec

<Kathy> ... rule scope can group certain roles. rule title is misleading

<Kathy> Wilco: rule will have a lot of secondary requirements because of broad scope

<Kathy> ... approach would allow failing of SCs incorrectly

<Kathy> giacomo: remove sec reqs for this rule

<Kathy> Wilco: would result in inconsistent implementations

<Kathy> giacomo: no WCAG in this ARIA rule

<Kathy> Wilco: broad scope overlaps many rules

<Kathy> Giacomo: try to refine rule

<Kathy> Carlos: split rule by secondary reqs

<Kathy> .. can have multiple roles in one rule

<Kathy> Giacomo: will make changes

Wilco: identifying what roles need names and what do not, and then bringing those to the ARIA WG would be helpful

<sashanichols> I need to drop, bye!
