Meeting minutes
<AvneeshSingh> zaim, next agendum
elizabeth: I'm new, I'm from eBOUND Canada, I'm happy to be here
Next steps after the release of Accessibility metadata display Guide for digital publications 2.0
AvneeshSingh: we achieved a big milestone on publishing the Accessibility metadata display Guide for digital publications 2.0
… not it's the time to plan our future work
<AvneeshSingh> https://
AvneeshSingh: we already have some issues in the tracker
… any other issues?
gautierchomel: I think we have an isue with placeholders
… in strings, it's the most important issue for me
gpellegrino: will the next version be a minor version?
AvneeshSingh: for sure it will not be 3.0, maybe 2.1 or 2.0.1
George: I think we have cases in which no information is displayed because of broken metadata
gpellegrino: I think it's important to get feedback from implementers
AvneeshSingh: we can ask the implementors we know, to get some feedback
… at the same time we have some "simple" issues in the tracker that we can fix
gautierchomel: the issue that was raised by Hadrien was the same I mentioned about placeholders
AvneeshSingh: what about crosswalk on different metadata standards?
ChrisOliverOttawa: we are working on it, it took us a little bit of time
… but now we're working on MARC 21
gpellegrino: There was also a work in IFLA for having accessibility metadata about DAISY in MARC 21
George: in the BISG call today, we spoke about making an explainer on accessibility metadata for publishers, librarians, etc.
… there is a question on how to pass accessibility metadata to libraries
ChrisOliverOttawa: there is a work in IFLA for defining terminology that can be understand in different languages and by different audience
<CharlesL1> https://
CharlesL1: We're working to improve the crosswalk
… we have EPUB, ONIX, EPUB to MARC 21 and ONIX to MARC
<ChrisOliverOttawa> p+
gpellegrino: I see a big problem in the proliferating of metadata standards
CharlesL1: I see the issue, we added the metadata as suggested by the people in the community group
ChrisOliverOttawa: I don't think there is a desire to create differences, MARC is a format for sharing information
… I think that having definitions is important
AvneeshSingh: what's the way forward on this crosswalk?
Chris_ONIX: the proposal for using these columns is from Chris Carr, we may ask him
… on the ONIX and Schema.org part I think we're nearly there
gautierchomel: not having the crosswalk is an issue at the moment
… we're seeing it in France, with public libraries
… for the technical part, I think we should find a way to make it more readable
George: in the guidelines we have compact and descriptive statements, and techniques referencing to them, will this work with MARC?
… second question on the explainer for educators, librarians, publishers; I'm not sure how to write something for librarians at the moment
ChrisOliverOttawa: I may put you in contact with chair of the working group working on terminology in IFLA
George: BISG will make a blog post in June and endorse the guidelines for displaying metadata, and something similar should be done for libraries
ChrisOliverOttawa: It's not that simple, some softwares for managing libraries are quite "static" and it's not simple to add new types of metadata
… there is also a work for managing the source of metadata in MARC
George: I know there was a proposal of using the display viewer made by DAISY and use the output text as a note field in MARC
Improvements required in the localization repository:
AvneeshSingh: we have the localization repository with all the JSON localized in different languages
… do we need some improvements?
… there is an open PR, may we merge it?
gautierchomel: I have another PR for fixing small things in the localization viewer
Other work items for the accessibility task force of Publishing CG?
JonasLillqvist: in the JSON file, in the metadata section, there is a "variant: canonical"
… it's in all JSON files
… should we use another term?
gautierchomel: we over-engineered this work
… I think that metadata is not useful anymore...
AvneeshSingh: any other work that we think is a priority and that we should take over?
CharlesL1: what about best practices for image descriptions?
George: we have some issues open about the "back button" in reading systems, the citation tools
AvneeshSingh: I think we should think about all these type of bestpractices
… thank you to everyone, let's meet in two weeks
