Releasing final draft of Accessibility Metadata Display Guide for Digital Publications.
Avneesh: Work of the past three years and a lot in the last yesr.
It is time to release the final draft report with the intention of finalize in the next month or two.
It is important to get people off of version 1.
Rick: Do we ant to hold the release to provide more clarity on Ways to read and in the conformance section.
Rick: The conformance is out of sync with the JSON.
Gregorio: If we agree to add sub-headings to ways to read and the details in conformance.
Gregorio: In Ways to read we would had sub-headings.
Rick: in the details, of conformance there is a problem.
<AvneeshSingh> URLs of document:
<AvneeshSingh> https://
<AvneeshSingh> https://
<AvneeshSingh> https://
Gregorio: I now understand and we can rearrange the ids to group the details within a sub-section to group the information in the same way as in ways to reading.h
Rick: We need to fix the example as well.
Gregorio: I canmanually fix the JSON and then make a PR to align.
<AvneeshSingh> PROPOSED: Approve publication of final draft of accessibility metadata display guide for digital publication, after providing clarification for issue #654 and updating JSON and examples for detailed conformance info
Avneesh: Let's start with fixing the JSON and then do the two PRs. One for ways to read and one for conformance and the example.

<AvneeshSingh> RESOLVED
Main topics to work on after final release.
Avneesh: What changes after the final release?
Avneesh: What is needed for libraries serving persons with disabilities.
Avneesh: Work on the algorithms.
MARC and PDF metadata needs to be added.
<AvneeshSingh> acl mext
Chris: Meeting with Simon from Elseiver and we talked about journals being represented.
George: JATS has been updated to add a11y metadata
… in JATS its an internal format then it is published in HTML or PDF or EPUB.
… not sure what the internal a11y metadata is itself, could find out. What do we do with something not in a final form? Do we query JATS itself whats in there?
… most a11y would be there alt text extended description, a11y tables etc.
rickj: similar question for PDF.
… if we receive it in ONIX, we have turned on all ONIX fields a few weeks ago, so we are getting thousands of metadata in ONIX which we need to look into.
Avneesh: Do we have any contacts at JATS?
George: I was on the working group. I didn't attend too many of the meetings. I could post a message to that group. what should I post?
ChrisOliverOttawa: Sending the data as ONIX would help not just internal. libraries cant really access the internal but we can access the ONIX.
gpellegrino: ChrisS may know more about ONIX for Journals.
ChrisS: this is for subscription services, not the same as ONIX for books. but ONIX for serials is for a different supply stream. moved to doing alternatives due changes in supply streams. best to use ONIX for books for Journals. I will look into this.
… linking to journals as a collection type of metadata. you can describe individual journals, but we can't describe a collection.
ccarr: its services that provide us the metadata, we want article level a11y metadata.
… Chris and I would need to talk to vendors to find out that metadata.
George: to JATS we want to cover journals in the future and article level metadata is what we would like and create a ticket for this in our repo.
AvneeshSingh: main focus a11y metadata
George to post the final draft information to the JATZ group. State that we want to cover journals in the future.
Accessibility Article level metadata information is what people would like.
George: good relationship with BISG and EBSCO is a partner inclusive Publishing, talks with ProQuest and believe Elsevier is in same league with providing journals.
… the higher ed gov group the individual article was the 2nd biggest problem in the industry, with books being the first. Recommendation from that group was to go to EPUB which we have done. Clear direction to get a11y of journals is top priority.
AvneeshSingh: sounds good, you can liaison with the group and keep us posted.
George: will create an issue to keep track.
… Mark Weiler as soon as I post this issue the bibliographic issue Citation problem. some organizations citation function there may be some issues with how citations are made and journals may make this more of an issue unless we can identify a specific article will help. Github issue in the Publishing WG repo.
ChrisS: Chriss O and Chriss C if you can identify from the library what we want, I can help on the ONIX side
ccarr: other players ILS library platforms OCLC, Folio, etc. working on displaying the individual article metadata in the catalog. maybe even before they open up the article.
George: OCLC, is represented in BISG and Clair Halloway has been doing a presentation for work on this topic. I can reach out to her with this journal question to get OCLC involved.
AvneeshSingh: use cases?
George: sighted person can go to the page to get the page, if the page #'s are not there the screen reader use may not be able to find that information.
… may not be sufficient general metadata to get the proper citation and then there is no page # what is the accepted way to provide a citation without page #'s. same with citing HTML pages. Get citation is, but not sub issues.
AvneeshSingh: we should document the sub items.
rickj: I agree with George, citations internationally as well, data is not there, we drop in a placeholder that this information needs to be found out of band.
AvneeshSingh: George when you have free time add to this issue.
George: when will we announce?
AvneeshSingh: some time next week after we get this last few issues fixed.
… Thanks all
